A. Dale Whaley's Obituary
RAVENNA-SHALERSVILLE A. Dale Whaley, 75 years of age, passed away Sunday August 1, 2010 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Dale was born on November 7, 1934 in Mantua, Ohio the son of the late Earl and Wilma (Burchett) Whaley. A resident of the Ravenna-Shalersville area the past 20 years, he formerly was a longtime Mantua area resident and a graduate of Crestwood Schools. Dale was employed at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills as a bug driver, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, yard work and will be remembered for his outgoing personality always talking with and making new friends anyplace he went, and his love of drinking coffee with everyone whose path he crossed. Dale also loved spending time with his grandchildren and Jayden his only great-grandson became "The light of his life ". On August 13, 1960, he married Gwendolyn "Boots" (Hon) Whaley who survives at their residence. Also surviving is his son Terry Whaley of Ravenna; his daughter Linda Gallagher of Mantua; his brother David Whaley of California and sister Diane (Marty) Hura of Mantua; three grandchildren Amy (Dick) Kuntzman, Tierian "Ian" and Brien and his great-grandson Jayden. He was preceded in death by one brother Michael Whaley. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:30 P.M.-7:30 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will begin at 7:30 P.M. with Mrs. Jane Strauss officiating. Full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard Team and members of American Legion Post No. 193 will follow. A private family burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua Village. Following the Wednesday evening services, friends and family are invited to share a time of fellowship at the Mantua Village Lodge.
