Alan Dimick's Obituary
AURORA Alan Hardy Dimick, 97 years of age, a long-time resident of Aurora, passed away Sunday June 8, 2014 at home with his family. Alan was born February 1, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio the son of the late Harry Ralph Dimick and Anna Beatrice (Sifton) Dimick. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1935, attended Kent State University for two years, and graduated from Ohio State University, The College of Veterinary Medicine in 1942. He had an extensive large animal practice in Portage and the surrounding counties in northeastern Ohio and was a member of Central Ohio Breeding Association and the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Alan was a man of many talents and few words. He was a master craftsman and woodworker, building his own house and barn and many pieces of furniture. Turning bowls on his lathe was one of his specialties. In later years he took up making fishing rods and made his own golf clubs as well. On September 15, 1945 Alan was married to Mary Louise McConnell. Together they enjoyed traveling, making a dozen trips to Europe, as well as a trip to Australia and many RV trips to Mexico. He relished a good bridge game and especially enjoyed partnering with Mary for duplicate. Alan was also an active outdoorsman, who liked to hike, do rock climbing, canoe, and hunt. Alan is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons: Bruce Edward (Doreen) Dimick, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI ; Philip Alan Dimick of Penn Run, PA; and Thomas Hardy Dimick of Aurora, OH; three grandchildren: Sarah Dimick-(Scott) Gray, Rebekah (Eric) Dimick Eastman, Louise Dimick (Deepak Dass) ; and five great grandchildren: Alex, Fiona, Ted, Harley, and Marigold. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Final resting place will be at Edinburg Cemetery.
