Amy Lou Sittner's Obituary
Amy Lou (Brant) Sittner peacefully passed with family at her bedside on November 29th, 2025 at age 70 at UH-Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio.
Born in that same town on September 13, 1955, to the late Richard and Leta (Wilke) Brant, Amy was the last of 5 children and grew up on her Hiram Rapids family farm making art, cooking, sewing and gardening – and putting up the harvests canning and freezing for the family.
After finishing Crestwood High in 1974, Amy went on to Youngstown State and – despite being the youngest – was the first of her family to graduate with a Bachelors Degree. Amy excelled in her accounting career, employed by Mantaline Corporation for many years followed by Beacon Support Services, Buckeye Residential Solutions, and Hiram Farm.
Introduced by mutual friends, Amy married the love of her life, Fred Richard Sittner on June 28, 1986 surrounded by family and friends. The couple soon established a home in Mantua and welcomed a daughter and a son. Amy held a special bond with her mother, inviting her to join her family’s homestead in 1996, following the passing of her father. Always a true caregiver, Amy remained dedicated to her mother until her passing and then, throughout her own husband’s cancer struggle.
Amy’s crowning achievement was as one of the founding parents of the Hiram Farm Living and Learning Community in 2009 - an agricultural setting serving adults with developmental disabilities with an emphasis on adults on the autism spectrum. She worked tirelessly to ensure her son and others were provided opportunities to grow, learn, and work in a setting focused on respect for individuals and the environment. Amy volunteered in many capacities and committees, earning many awards in support of those living w disabilities, most recently serving as a Hiram Farm board member.
Surviving this immense loss are her beloved children, Erin and Shawn, and cherished granddaughter, Ashlyn. Also surviving are sisters, a devoted sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, many cousins and countless special friends. Amy was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Fred, both parents, and two siblings.
Services will be announced at a later date.
