Betty J. Almy's Obituary
MANTUA Betty J. Almy, 89 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Thursday June 23, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Almy was God's Gift to Us on November 14, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Gabriel and Elizabeth (Gonci) Gonczy. A lifetime resident of the Mantua area, Betty was a graduate of Mantua Township Schools where she was the 2nd. Highest in her class. For 47 years she was the bookkeeper for Almy TV Sales & Service which she and her husband Burt Almy operated together. She was a former member of the Mantua Center Christian Church. In 1970 Betty attended a Bible Study group lead by Florence Udell, and together she and her husband were the establishing factor of the beginning of His Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Udell. When the building of His Ministry in Aurora began, Betty cooked for workers, cooking being a quality she was excellent at, but also one which she fully enjoyed doing, along with gardening and caning. Whatever was needed, Betty could always be counted on to do! Over her years of service to God, Betty ran the church bookstore, oversaw the kitchen, traveled to visit those in ill health, provided her assistance with the prayer chain and devoted herself to the tender care of God's children, and always with her warm smile and soft spoken way. Her loss on this earth to those family and friends who have come to know and love her is only heightened by her arrival in heaven with open arms by her beloved Burt, Pastor Florence and those family and friends who have crossed the River Jordon before her. On June 22, 1946, she married Burt L. Almy, Sr. whose passing took place on May 20, 2006. Also preceding Betty were her brothers Gabe, Paul and Joe Gonczy. Betty is survived by her son Burt L. ( Kay ) Almy, Jr. and daughter Cindy ( James ) Atkins, siblings Dan ( Judy ) Gonczy, Margie Gonczy all of Mantua and Jim ( Jane ) Gonczy of Burton and her loving grandson A.J. Almy, all of Mantua.
