Betty May Hunter's Obituary
MANTUA TWP.Betty May Hunter, 86 years of age, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus surrounded by her family on Friday August 19, 2011 at her residence. Born in Ashtabula, Ohio on October 11, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Vern and Iva (Potter) Alderman. Betty was raised in Ashtabula and graduated from Ashtabula Harbor High School in 1942. Betty was employed by the U.S. Navy Office in Cleveland and New York and Ohio Bell Telephone as a supervisor, retiring 1n 1980 after more than 35 years of service. Betty was a strong Christian woman that not only devoted her life to God, but leaves a legacy of selflessness and always having an open heart and hand to assist others in any situation. She was a devoted member of her church since 1971, where she was active in choir, teaching Sunday school, bible memorization, gospel team, visitation and working in the office. Betty enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends. Betty loved her family and looked forward to family gatherings which included her grandchildren who loved, respected and adored her... .she will be greatly missed and will forever be an "awesome" grandma. On February 8, 1944, she married Fred S. Hunter who preceded her in death in 1966. Also preceding her were brothers Harry, Ivan and Olney Alderman. Betty is survived by her son Harry (Paula) Hunter, grandsons Harry (Angie) Hunter and Matthew (Lorena) Hunter and five great-grandchildren Troy, Tyler, Taylor, Brooke and Adie all of Mantua. Calling hours will be Wednesday August 24, 2011 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Aurora, 79 East Mennonite Road, Aurora where her Celebration of Life service will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Michael Komrada of Washington, D.C. officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow at the church social hall. Betty will be laid to rest at a private family burial Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva, Ohio. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
