Betty Jo (McClure) Jones, 92 years of age, of Nelson Twp., passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, due to complication of the coronavirus, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dycusburg, Kentucky on January 31, 1930 the daughter of the late Leslie and Dolly (Doom) McClure.
She married Eugene “Chicken” Jones on June 25, 1952 – they were married 67 years, and who preceded her in death on July 8, 2019.
She loved flowers, gardening, canning (her stuffed Hungarian peppers with sauerkraut were a family favorite), hosting huge holiday meals and listening to hymns by Alan Jackson. She also enjoyed reading publications Birds & Blooms and The Crittenden Press. She started each day with a honey bun and a cup of coffee. She also enjoyed a nightly dilly bar. She loved watching Jeopardy with her son Lowell, or her great granddaughter Sarah. Her sweet tea was legendary.
Betty was preceded in death by her son Larry, grandson Alan, great granddaughter Lizzy, brothers Northern and Rudolph, sisters Rebecca “Jane”, Johnny Lou “Kit” and Dotty Sue “Dot”.
She is survived by her daughter Linda (Thomas) Fitt, of Hiram, sons Leslie (Rhonda) Jones of Garrettsville, and Lowell Jones of Nelson Twp.; granddaughters Amie Jones, and Angie (Eric) Smithburger, grandson Todd Fitt, great-grandchildren Sarah Perkins, Noah Jones, Craig Jones and Grace Smithburger; sisters Dorcas (Richard) Kline of Rootstown, June (Douglas) Duvall, and brother Patrick (Geri) McClure, both of Kentucky.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon, at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail, at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio, 44255, where her funeral service will then begin at Noon. Final resting place will follow at Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Twp., where honored to serve as pallbearers will be Leslie Jones, Lowell Jones, Craig Jones, Tom Fitt, Todd Fitt and Amie Jones. Following the service family and friends will meet for a time of fellowship at the Faith Evangelical Church, 10585 Windham Parkman Road, Garrettsville, Ohio, 44231.Her video tribute, condolences and memories may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
