HIRAM-STRONGSVILLE
Betty Jane Smith, 92 years of age, passed away Friday June 22, 2018 at her residence. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Eugene D. and Ruth L. (Fisher) Bassett. Formerly of Strongsville, she had resided in Hiram since 2015. She was a graduate of Parma High School, and a member of Church of God 7th. Day in Cleveland. For many years she had been employed as a beautician at Halle Brothers in Middleburg Hts., Ohio. Mrs. Smith truly enjoyed horses and dogs, was very talented at painting landscapes, yet her family always remained first in her life, and the love that they had for her, and her love for them has left cherished memories forever. On June 2, 1945, she married her beloved husband Henry E. Smith who preceded her in death, as well as her son Gary E. Smith. Mrs. Smith is survived by her devoted daughters Gail (Bernie Dedor) Chorich of Hiram and Bonnie (Don) Griffith of Bellville, Ohio; her loving grandchildren Aaron, Daniele, Jerry, Sara, and Jesse, and great-grandchildren Cody, Joshua, Matthew, Kaylin and Jason. No calling hours. Cremation at her request has taken place. Mrs. Smith and her husband Henry, will be laid to rest together at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at a private family inurnment.
