Carl Gillis' Obituary
Carl Gillis, "Unk", age 76, of Mantua, passed away Thursday, October, 12, 2023. He was the son of Paul and Margaret Gillis, born September 5, 1947 in Akron, Ohio. He was employed with Samuel Moore Company through it's many name changes.
Carl proudly served in the US Army from 1966-1968 in Vietnam and was a "tunnel rat" that searched tunnels to find the enemy.
He loved cooking, baking, flea-marketing, gardening, hunting, fishing and nature. Anyone that knew him would consider him a friend and a "Mr. Fix It". He loved the challenge.
Preceding him in death were brothers Paul Gillis Jr., Arthur (Bonnie) Oblisk, Gerald (Sherry) Oblisk, Norman Gillis, William Gillis and a sister, Catherine Brandt.
Left with many memories, his wife of 51 years, Vera, brother-in-law Danny Etling, brothers Bernard (Mary) Oblisk, Dale (Diane) Gillis, sister Margie Gesch, sister-in-law Mary Gillis, and many nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to meet at Drakesburg Cemetery on Nichols Rd. in Freedom Township on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. where Carl will be laid to rest with full military honors. A gathering to share memories will follow at the Freedom Town Hall.
