Clyde Oliver Bailey's Obituary
MANTUA Clyde Oliver Bailey, 88 years of age of Mantua, Ohio went home to glory on Monday November 21, 2016 after one year of declining health. Born on September 9, 1928 in Freedom Township, Ohio, he was the son of the late Homer and Georgine (Klein) Bailey. Clyde was a graduate of Hiram School in 1947 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a community leader and businessman in Mantua as a partner in Corofac Plastics and founding owner of Vanguard Plastics, Inc. in Mantua. He served ten years as a Mantua volunteer fireman and sixteen years on the Crestwood Local School District Board of Education. He was a past Master of the Mantua Masonic Lodge No. 533 F. &A.M. and Mantua Order of the Eastern Stars and an active member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church, and Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. Clyde loved spending winters in Bradenton, Florida. He and his wife Donna spent twenty five winters at their Florida residence. Clyde was an avid reader, particularly of the Holy Bible. Along with debating politics, and discussing the economy, he enjoyed walleye fishing on Lake Erie, and his annual Canadian fishing trip with other community leaders. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife Donna (Nickol) Bailey with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage, having married her on December 27, 1950. Two children, James C. (Mary Jo) Bailey of Bradenton, Florida and Tamra L. (Daniel) McDevitt of Suffield, Ohio. Three grandchildren, Chad (Stephanie) Bailey, Christopher (Lisa) McDevitt and Meghan McDevitt. Three great grandchildren, Jo Marie and Owen Bailey, and Jane McDevitt in addition to special family friend, Debbi Bailey. Clyde leaves behind one surviving sister, Jeannie Valot of Newton Falls. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer Jr., Charles, Freeman, Marvin, Dale Bailey, and four sisters, Alma (Dyson), Eleanor (McAninch), Pearl (Bartholomew), Grace (Eggleston). The Bailey family would like to thank the University Hospitals Hospice Team, the VA aides, and Terry Sargent for the professional and compassionate care provided to Clyde. Special thanks to the church family of Portage Faith United Methodist Church for the many meals, cards, visits, and prayers throughout his illness. Clyde was a humble man of great integrity and in celebration of his servant heart, memorials may be made in his name to one of his favorite charitable interests: Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department, Portage Faith United Methodist Church, Akron Children?s Hospital and Make a Wish Foundation.?Calling hours will be Sunday November 27, 2016 from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St.Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255, where his funeral service will be held Monday November 27, 2016 at 10:00 A.M.Officiating will be Pastor Joyce Hoile. Final resting place will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Mantua Village, Ohio where Full Military Honors will be provided by The U.S.Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.
