Corinne "Corky" Oldham's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLECorinne "Corky" Oldham, 85 years of age, a resident of Garrettsville-Nelson area since 1950, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Briar Hill Nursing Home in Middlefield, Ohio. Born on January 2, 1924 in Windham, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Clarice (Waltz) Comyns. Mrs. Oldham was employed as associate editor for the Garrettsville Journal until it was sold in 1971, following which she worked for the Record Courier in Ravenna and the Towne & Country Publications in Chagrin Falls. "Corky" was well known for her numerous community activities and held active memberships in the Literary-Musical club in Nelson, the Nelson United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, the "Singing Grannies", and as an avid bowler for many years in the WIBC. Mrs. Oldham was an Election Board member in the Nelson Precinct and volunteer in church and local affairs whenever called upon. "Corky" loved nature and appreciated the outdoors and the beauty of God's land. Survivors include her children Robert E. Kotkowski of Garrettsville, Susan M. (KIP) Minnick of Braceville, and Kenneth E. (Debbie) Oldham, Marjorie (Roger) Nottingham, Karen (Thomas) Hedge and Marlene (Brad) Edder all of Ravenna, her brother John R. (Alice) Comyns of Cortland, sister Janet (Thomas) Bosma of Hiram, Barbara Cooper of Nelson and 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband Benedict J. Kotkowski in 1973, her second husband Elmer H. Oldham in 2000 and two sisters Virginia Burlin and Christine Mullett. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 P.M.-8 P.M.at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rick Hughes officiating. Mrs. Oldham will be laid to rest at Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township. Memorials to the American Heart Association are suggested.
