Curtis Downing Jr.'s Obituary
Curtis John Edwin Downing, Jr., age 86, formerly of Mantua Ohio, passed away
Saturday, March 9, 2024 in Titusville, PA.
Curtis was born on September 25, 1937 at the family home in East Cleveland. He
attended Shaw High School and later went on to attend Kent State University, playing
football at both schools. He enjoyed canoe trips and camping in the Canadian bush
and loved to backpack and hike. He was an avid jogger and competed in several
marathons.
Curtis was a Christian man who rarely missed a day of church and would sing at the top
of his lungs during worship. He especially loved classical music, fast cars, studying
history and had to always be reading something. He valued hard work! In his retirement,
he bought a farm in Pennsylvania where he tended to his highland cows and large
bountiful garden.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cathy Downing; children, Scott (Annette), Curt
(Karen), Doug (Carol), Laura Ahart (Britt) and Greg (Kristen); step-children, Renee
Walker (Mark), Michelle Zayak (Jim) and Laura Klatik; grandchildren, Vonnie Martin
(Mickey), Tyler (Brooke), Marie Morgan (Steve), Andrew (Meagan), Kyle, Ian, Ross
(Mackenzie), Cameron, Alyssa Borjas, Reese Borjas, Campbell Ahart, Alexus, Ryann,
Nate Walker, James Zayak (Emylee), Morgan Reiff (Duane), Dan Klatik and Audrey
Krotz (Eric); great grandchildren, Olivia Martin, Tripp Martin, Hudson, Porter, Ford,
William Morgan, Harrison Morgan, Sophia Morgan, Greyson, Declan, Tyler Zayak,
London Zayak, Haven Reiff, Jacob Hukill, and Alise Lang.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Downing Sr and Mildred (Appla)
Downing; his wife and mother of his five children, Nadine (McLaughlin) Downing; and a
sister Carol (Downing), Lundstrom.
Friends may call for visitation at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail (at the corner
of St. Rt. 44), Mantua, Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be
Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Friendship Alliance Church, 19126 Ravenna Rd., at 10:30
a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township.
