Dallas L. Griffith , Sr's Obituary
MANTUA-SHALERSVILLEDallas L. Griffith, Sr., 75 years of age, a resident of the Mantua-Shalersville areas since 1972, passed away Thursday June 10, 2010. Born on December 14, 1934 in Raven, Virginia, he was the son of the late Douglas and Bessie (Newberry) Griffith. Mr. Griffith was employed as a machine operator for S.K.Wellman in Bedford retiring after 20 years of service. A U.S.Army Veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Streetsboro Fraternal Order of Eagles # 4300. Dallas enjoyed fishing; gardening, playing the guitar and the special times spent with his family, and will always be remembered by his great-grandchildren as "Old Grandpa". On Janaury 4, 1957, he married Shirley E. Griffith who preceded him in death on March 18, 2007. Survivors include his son Dallas L. (Lisa) Griffith, Jr. of Shalersville; his brother Ralph (Carol) Griffith of Virginia; his grandchildren Stephanie Griffith, Stacy (Jeremy) Hunter and Kristen (Nathan) Cavanaugh, Sr. and great-grandchildren Melody Griffith, Isabella Hunter, Nathan Cavanaugh, Jr., Danielle Cavanaugh and Lucas Cavanaugh. He was preceded in death by one sister Helen Griffith. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Monday June 14, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bill Thomas officiating. Dallas will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Shirley at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville Township with Nathan Cavanaugh Sr., Nathan Cavanaugh Jr., Jeremy Hunter, Donny Seither, Roger Marks, Jr. and Cliff Griffith respectively acting as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by a U.S. Army Honor Guard Detail and Streetsboro American Legion. A time of fellowship will then follow at the Streetsboro Eagles on St.Rt. 14 in Streetsboro.
