Dorothea C. Mackle's Obituary
Dorothea C. Mackle, 92 years of age, passed away Monday April 29, 2024, at the
Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ravenna, Ohio.
Born in her Ravenna, Ohio childhood home on November 2, 1931, Dorothea was the
youngest child of Italian immigrants; the late Matteo and Filomena (Esposito) Cristino. A
lifelong resident of Ravenna, and devout Catholic, she attended Our Lady of the Elms and
entered the convent before meeting her husband of 57 years, Nicholas F. Mackle, whom
she married on July 16, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Alongside Nick,
Mrs. Mackle operated Mackle Printing from their backyard printing shop in Ravenna for over
50 years.
Although Dorothea was a woman with many talents, she is undoubtedly most remembered
for her lifelong example in how to enjoy the simple things in life. From tending to her garden
or the seasonal pumpkin patch, late nights in the printing shop with her husband, or
attending and traveling to her children and grandchildren’s sports and activities, she loved a
‘hole in the wall’ restaurant just as much as her most favorite indulgences (i.e., a hot dog
with very little mustard, an occasional small beer, fried chicken - that you best clean the
bones of). She watched and fed the birds and squirrels in her backyard with love and awe; a
day of sunshine did not go unnoticed. Most of all, she exuded tenacity, while always
showing love, acceptance, and maybe a little sass, to everyone she met. She leaves her
loved ones a legacy of honesty, hard work ethic, prayerfulness, and love of family.
Dorothea is survived by her children Nicholas (Georgie) Mackle of Malvern, Ohio, Monica
(Robert) Morson of Kent, and Joseph (Sue) Mackle of Ravenna; her grandchildren Steven
(Megan) Mackle, Andrew Mackle, Raquel (Cody Stipcic) Morson, Robert Morson, Leland
Mackle, and Nick Mackle;great grandchildren Bella and Macie Mackle;and her sister-in-law
Jean (Richard) White of New Hampshire among many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothea follows her husband Nicholas; father, Matteo; mother, Filomena; brothers,
Nicholas, Frank, Michael and George; sisters, Bella Homovec and Antionette Smith; infant
brother Michael; infant sister, Antonetta.
