Dorothy M. Forbes' Obituary
Hiram RapidsDorothy Marie Forbes, 90 years of age of Beecher, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Beecher Manor. Born on March 12, 1924 in Hiram Rapids, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Freda (Hutchison) Patch. Dorothy grew up in Hiram Rapids, and was a graduate of Hiram High School. A longtime resident of Whiting, Indiana and active member of First United Methodist Church of Whiting, Dorothy spent numerous years working with special needs students at Hammond, Indiana schools. Dorothy travelled extensively, visiting Australia, Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Canada, and much of the U.S. She was a talented singer and musician, loved handicrafts, baking, and had a wonderful sense of humor. During her retirement years, Dorothy and her husband Walter moved to a farm house in rural Grant Park, Illinois where she enjoyed riding her horses and country living in general, She is survived by her children Timothy (Diana) Forbes, Elizabeth (Calvin) Forbes-Smith, Susanne (Dan) Hayden, Douglas (Darlene) Forbes, David (Kathy) Forbes, and Donald (Leilani) Forbes, as well as 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Forbes, sister Esther Demchak, and brothers Louis Patch, Jr., and Thomas Patch. Visitation will be Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, Ohio from 1:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. A graveside funeral service will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Hiram Rapids, Ohio. At 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation:www.arthritis.org.
