Dorothy Ann Turk's Obituary
NELSON TWP. Dorothy Ann Turk, 82 years of age, a resident of the Nelson area since 1972, passed away Saturday January 30, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Turk was born on August 8, 1927 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio the daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Nemecek) Pivonka. Mrs. Turk was a graduate of Kent State University with a Masters in both Elementary Education and Remedial Reading. She began her educational career at Streetsboro Schools, and then was employed at Silver Lake and Kent City Schools, following which she taught at Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Turk was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church, as well as holding memberships in numerous professional organizations including OEA, NEOTA and PORTA (Portage County Retired Teachers Association). On October 21, 1950 she married Harold A. Turk who preceded her in death in 1974. Survivors include her sons Richard D. (Jeanette) Turk of Nelson Twp. and Jeffrey E. Turk of Garrettsville and 3 grandchildren. In addition to her husband preceding her in death, her son Christopher H. Turk died in 1972 in Viet Nam and her brothers Louis Pivonka and Ed Nemecek also preceded her. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Her funeral service will be Wednesday February 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Nelson United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Hughes officiating. Mrs. Turk will be laid to rest at Hawley Cemetery in Paris Twp.
