Dorthea Pierce's Obituary
MANTUA Dorthea L. Pierce, 96 years of age, passed away Friday September 23, 2011. Born on November 3, 1914 in Mantua, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ralph G. and Elvarene (Sutliff) Mayhew. A lifetime resident of Mantua, she was a graduate of Hiram College. "Dot" married Wallace R. "Wally" Pierce on June 22, 1937, following which she joined him in the operation of the Mantua Grain & Supply where eventually they owned and operated for many years, she being the vice-president and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Hilltop Christian Church and former member of Mystic Chapter O.E.S. A family with a devoted love for horses, Mrs. Pierce was secretary-treasurer and her husband president of the Ohio Cutting Horse Association for many years. She also held memberships in the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Congress. Survivors include her sons Ted M. (Amy) Pierce of Holly, Colorado and Dale E. Pierce of Mantua, her grandchildren Tate, Jennifer, Cade, Bill, Ryan, Mason and Marshall and 5 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on January 25, 1998. No calling hours. A private family burial has been held at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Pierce will be Sunday October 23, 2011 2:00 P.M. at The Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
