Edgar C. Sweet's Obituary
SHALERSVILLE Edgar C. Sweet, 79 years of age, passed away Wednesday November 24, 2010 at his residence. Born on March 15, 1931 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, he was the son of the late Wilbur Clyde and Mary Elizabeth (McCann) Sweet. A lifetime resident of Portage County, Mr. Sweet had resided in Shalersville since 1960, also formerly living in Hiram and Mantua. Mr. Sweet was employed at Stamm Contracting for 30 years as a heavy equipment operator, and was also was self employed for 15 years as a backhoe and dozer driver. Mr. Sweet was a school bus driver for Crestwood Schools for many years in addition to his other employments. A farmer by heart, Edgar Sweet heard of several models of tractors, but knew that the only real tractors were those with the name John Deere. To know Edgar, was to know a man who was always ready to help others with good advice when called upon, lived a life of working hard and loved his family and also had a great love for animals. On August 30, 1953, he married Chloe Ann (Smith) Sweet who survives at their home.Edgar is also survived by his children Walter C. Sweet of Shalersville, Scott G. (Julie) Sweet of Tallmadge, Jeff L.(Tammy) Sweet of Mantua, Eric T.(Brenda) Sweet of Lisbon, Kris E. (Michelle) Sweet of Shalersville and Kelly A.(Jason) Conley of Freedom;his brother Alvin W. (Bobbie) Sweet of Windham and sisters Marcia Ann Ames of Mantua and Rebecca Jane Gill of Newton Falls, as well as 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Worthy L., John A. and Sam M. Sweet and sister Wilburta Constable.Calling hours will be Sunday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where funeral services will be Monday November 29,2010 at 2:00 P.M. Edgar will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville.
