Elizabeth M. McConville's Obituary
Ravenna. Elizabeth M. "Betty" McConville passed away at 12:15 a.m. on January 26, 2009, at the Woodlands at Robinson, where she has been a resident for the past two years. She was 91. Born May 10, 1917, in Philipsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Mae F. (Fenton) Flegal, and the wife of the late James Lawrence McConville II who died in February 2000. A resident of Ravenna since 1951, she held a number of jobs at workplaces familiar to long-time city residents: the Ravenna Arsenal, Lawson's Milk Company, Music Mart, Wright's Department Store, and the General Electric Ravenna Lamp Plant. By all accounts, she was a woman who genuinely enjoyed going to work each day. Her loves and interests revolved around her family. She also enjoyed music, especially pianoa?"which she played--as well as cooking, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, rug-hooking, and in her earlier years, gardening. In her later years, she looked forward to watching Tiger Woods. A Dale Carnegie public speaking course she took in the 1960s encouraged her to voice simply and passionately what she believed. She is survived by her son, Terence M. McConville, Ravenna; daughter, Mary M. (Joseph H.) Chadbourne, Chagrin Falls, OH; granddaughter, Sarah M. McConville, Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Caitlin M. Roberts, Greensburg, PA; brother, John A. Flegal, Ravenna. Her oldest child, James L. McConville III, died in 1993. In accord with her wishes, the family plans a private memorial service. Those wishing to remember her with charitable donations may do so through the following charities or another of their choice: (1) breast cancer: Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, Donations, P. O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309; (2) scholarships: The Ravenna High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Ravenna Board of Education, 507 E. Main St., Ravenna, OH 44266. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home and Crematory Service in Mantua.
