Getting to spend time around Uncle Gene was a treat, and knowing the type of man he was, and had inspired his kids to be (and of course he had a wonderful partner in this endeavor) made me appreciate him (and them) more. His knack of addressing disagreeable things agreeably, or at least logically, would have often times earned the envy of Socrates, and his sense of humor was a soothing balm and/or effective antidote to opposing anecdotes. His AA affiliation was a Medal of Honor he was modest about and proud of too (just as those recipients are who earn them in the field of combat). More than an honorable veteran, in the most profound sense, an honorable citizen, I, Cordie, one of his nephews, am proud to add my name and voice to the chorus that sing his praise.
