Frank Stein's Obituary
Franchot “Frank” C. Stein, 87, of Mantua, OH passed away during the early morning hours of Sunday, March 24, 2024, after a brief illness.
Frank was born on July 19, 1936 to Edgar and Katharine Stein (both deceased) in the family’s home in Allentown, PA. He was the youngest of two brothers, preceded in death by his older brother, Edgar J. Stein, in 2012.
Early in 1957, Frank agreed to a blind date where he met the woman who would become his wife of 66 years, June M. Stein (Locke), marrying on June 8th, 1957. Together they raised four children, Clark F. Stein (Kathy); Kurt D. Stein (Kaitlyn); Lisa E. Carley (nee Stein) and Deanna K. Stein; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Frank spent most of his school-age years in the Detroit area, where playing baseball was his favorite past time. In 6th grade, he broke his arm and traded his bat for a trumpet, studying under a principal trumpet player from the Detroit Symphony, a relationship he would talk about often through the years.
A life-long University of Michigan fan, Frank was offered a music scholarship, though he turned it down to study his passion, sales. His own dad died suddenly during his freshman year, so he moved back home and finished his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Detroit; however, he fostered a love for the Wolverines in the Stein family that still runs deep today. After graduation, Frank spent his career in marketing and sales and had territories around the world. He retired in 2000 as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the Taylor Winfield Corporation.
Besides work and family, Frank had varied interests. He appeared in the Aurora Community Theater in various productions and was a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora. He had a beautiful, strong bass voice and directed and sang in church choirs in many congregations, namely Hope Lutheran and Christ Lutheran Church, where he was a member at the time of his death. Frank enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his son, Clark, on his pontoon dropping a line or two. He was always up for a game and was an avid card player, usually ending up winning, whether it be Hearts, Euchre or Pinochle.
In the last years of his life, Frank devoted every other day to visiting his wife, June, who is in memory care with dementia. He would bring her snacks and talk about their life together. He said he hoped that somewhere, deep down, she knew who he was and that he was there with her. Frank’s presence in the world will be sorely missed by so many who loved him.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail (at the corner of St. Rt. 44), Mantua, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A private Interment will immediately follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 Main St., Mantua, OH 44255.
