Fredde Portman's Obituary
TROY TWP.Fredde Portman, 76 years of age of Troy Township, passed away Wednesday August 14, 2013 at Geauga Regional Medical Center-UHS in Claridon Township, Ohio. Born on August 3, 1937 in Newbury Township, Ohio, he was the son of the late Louis and Rebecca (Burns) Portman. A lifetime Geauga County resident, Mr. Portman had resided in Troy Township the past 44 years, and was a graduate of Newbury High School. He had been employed for over 30 years in the maintenance department of Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, retiring in 2012. Mr. Portman was a U.S. Army veteran. A gentleman who loved the outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and exceptional golfer. He also was an extraordinary craftsman whose woodworking skills included building cabinets and working on an addition to the family residence. His family and friends will always remember his positive attitude and saying that " Everyday was a good day". On December 4, 1965, he married Sonja (Beery) Portman who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Matthew Portman of Texas, Stacy Reynolds and Stefanie Portman both of Troy Township, and his grandchildren Britney, Erika and Conner. No calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service is being planned at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
