Gaza C. Berta's Obituary
HIRAM Gaza C. Berta, 92 years of age, a lifetime resident of the Hiram area, passed away Wednesday January 20, 2010 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio. Mr. Berta was born on June 9, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Mary (Benko) Berta. He was retired from Harbison-Walker Company in Windham in 1982, where he was employed for 33 years as an electrician and mechanic. Mr. Berta was member of the Hiram Christian Church, local Union United Brick and Clay, and was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed gardening that included vegetables and fruit trees and sharing with family and friends from his passion with his land. A man of numerous talents, Mr. Berta could fix anything, made his own tools and built the Berta family home. On June 29, 1946 he married Hilda (Dade) Berta who preceded him in death on January 23, 2009. Also preceding him was his brother John Berta and sisters Gizella Helen Berta and Mary Klemm. Survivors include his children Mark Charles Berta of Uniontown, Ohio, Kathryn (William) Neff of Winter Haven, Florida and Barbara Berta of Bowling Green, Ohio and 7 grandchildren. No calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Oaks Foundation 715 S. Johnson Rd., Sebring, Ohio 44672. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
