Gilbert E. Woodson, Sr's Obituary
AURORAGilbert E. "Gene" Woodson, Sr.,86 years of age, passed away Friday January 25, 2013 at his residence. Born on June 18, 1926 in Trenton, Michigan, he was the son of the late Roy and Maude (Richardson) Woodson. A longtime Aurora resident, Gene was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Aurora. A salesman for furniture companies most of his life; Gene operated a furniture store at the Streetsboro Flea Market for many years, as well as being the owner-operator of the Streetsboro Flea Market since 2010. He also was formerly employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad. Gene was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Gene became a Professional Roller Skater during his life, and was a former United States Champion in 1941 and 1942. He enjoyed traveling both in the United States and Worldwide throughout his life. On June 24, 1948, he married Margaret E. Woodson who preceded him in death in 2009. Also preceding him was 1 grandson Ivan "Trey" Horner. Gene is survived by his devoted children Gilbert E. (Christine) Woodson, Jr. of Streetsboro, Charlene Woodson of Cincinnati,Ohio, Caren (Ivan) Horner of Rootstown, Cathleen Mitchell of Florida, Cynthia (Joseph) Ruyten of Rootstown, Claudia "Dee Dee" Woodson of Valley City and Cheryl (Clyde) "Butch" Berg of Diamond, and 15 loving grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Gene will be Wednesday January 30, 2013 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua at 1:30 P.M., where calling hours will be held from 11:30 A.M. until the time of his service. Rev. Michael Garvey will officiate, following which Gene will be laid to rest at Aurora City Cemetery where he will receive full military honors provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard Team, assisted by Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.
