Gwendolyn White's Obituary
ALLIANCEGwendolyn White, 83 years of age of Alliance, passed away Friday May 14, 2010 at Belair Care Center in Alliance. Mrs. White was born on October 14, 1926 in Michigan, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Szilagyi. A resident of Alliance the past 25 years, she formerly was a longtime Hiram, Ohio area resident. A graduate of Kent State University, Mrs. White was employed at Alliance City Hospital as Director of Dietary from 1973 until her retirement in 1986. A lady of many talents and interests, she enjoyed quilting, producing oil landscape paintings, traveling and entertaining friends and she loved to cook. Mrs. White had a saying that she taught her granddaughter Megan; I eat my peas with honey-I've done it all my life- it makes the peas taste funny, but it keeps them on the knife. Survivors include her daughter Lynne Boyer of Alliance; her brothers Jerry Szilagyi of Florida and Donald (Cathy) Szilagyi of Colorado; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law Leslie White of Chesterland. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar White in 1981 and her son Ronald White in 2005. Calling hours will be Monday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where her funeral service will be held Tuesday May 18, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Leta Gilmore officiating. Final resting place will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram.
