Harold E. Appleton's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLEHarold E. "Bud" Appleton, 85 years of age, passed away Sunday June 10,2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. Born in Stow, Ohio on April 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Hazel (Prentiss) Appleton. Bud was a longtime resident of Garrettsville where he farmed Rocky Maple Dairy Farm, later residing in Minerva and Stark County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Rockton Masonic Lodge No. 316 F.&A.M. in Kent, Ohio, a 32nd. Degree Mason, a member of Crescent Chapter O.E.S. in Garrettsville and Darrow Street Grange No. 751 Summit County. While he enjoyed hunting, fishing and " shooting the breeze" with family and friends, Bud will always be remembered as a man who believed in God, whose word was a handshake and who never knew a stranger . He is survived by his daughters Patricia (Frank) Harmon and Karen (Bruce) Greene both of Garrettsville and Frances (Dick) Ridenbaugh of Windham, his siblings Harry (Pam) Appleton of Monroe Falls, Ohio and Doris Trowbridge of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, his companion Virginia McVehil of Canton and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia in 1996, his second wife Fran in 2001, his granddaughter Carrie Sue Greene in 1992, his sister Betty Totts and step-son Rick Goldsmith and step-daughter Judy Higgins. No calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday June 14, 2012 at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
