Harry C. Sweet's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLE Harry C. Sweet, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Harry was born in Mantua Township, Ohio, on December 10, 1922, the son of the late Walter and Emma (Jarvis) Sweet. A lifetime Portage County resident, he had resided in Garrettsville over 60 years. Harry began carpentry work at the very young age of 14, and continued the art of wood crafting until his last days. He was a carpenter for Keller-Silver from where he retired. Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 31, 1942, and proudly served his country during World War II. He saw action in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes, and was honorably discharged on October 19, 1945. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5067 Garrettsville, American Legion Post No. 0674 in Windham, and Parkman Lodge No. 0642 F.&A.M. His life was characterized by his love for his grandchildren, camping and fishing, carpentry, farming and antique tractors, and spending time with his late wife, Bernice, visiting family and friends, telling stories, and offering wisdom from his past. Harry is survived by his son Stanley (Juanita Love) Kraft; his daughter Connie (Tom) Leedom; grandchildren, Tina (Dennis Ulrich) Dorris, Matt Leedom, Brett (Julie) Kraft; great-grandchildren , Tanya (Kevin) Pantalone, Tabitha (Jason) Converse, Dexter Dorris, Greg (Kristen) Kelley, Dustin Dorris, Ethan Kraft and Aiden Kraft; five adorable great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice (Barger) Sweet in 2003, and his son Willie Sweet, and several loving brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Harry will then be laid to rest at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville, where he will receive full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, assisted by American Legion Post No. 0674. The family would like to thank all of the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who aided in the care of Harry throughout the years, the Sedensky, Fry and Gingerich families for their love and support, and for each and every person who has brought out a smile or made Harry laugh at some point in his 89 years.
