Howard A. Quadder's Obituary
AUBURN TWP.Howard A. Quadder, 93 years of age, passed away Thursday May 17,2012 at his residence. Born on February 5, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert A. and Gertrude H. (Lannoch) Quadder. A longtime resident of the Auburn area, he moved to Shalersville Township 8 years ago following his retirement. Howard was proud to be an American, and he served two tours of duty in Africa and Italy during World War II in the U.S. Army. Following his return from the service, he built and was the owner-operator of Auburn Fish Farm at his home in Auburn Township, considering this to be his pride and joy. A engineer of heavy equipment, he also was the owner-operator of that business for many years in Auburn Township. Howard was without a doubt a very generous, loving and giving gentleman, always supplying friends and neighbors with produce he grew. Should he hear of someone in need, Howard was there, be it friend or stranger, thus a stranger became a friend. Howard was well known at both the Middlefield Market on Monday, and the Hartville Market on other weekdays, always looking for the best deal. Those who came to know him were aware that as a "jokester" he could, and would, permit his humor to act upon all, yet never in a harmful manner.A man who loved the outdoors, trapping, hunting, fishing were his pastimes, while the fish and pheasants and raising and protecting birds on his property were just as important. While he did not have a college degree, Howard took the time to teach youth of all ages, both boys and girls, to appreciate the outdoors and shown respect for God's land and creatures. From time to time, he could be known to also share good liquor with a friend, or alone as he observed the world around him. A person who always was thinking, he would collect " road kill", take it home and run a line over one of his lake so that eventually the remains of the road kill would supply the fish below with a source of additional food. Howard is survived by his dear friend and caring companion Marie Tornabene of Shalersville, his loving daughter Linda (Hayden) Gregory of Washington,D.C., his dear nephew Dale (Grace) Benton of West Farmington, his cherished grandchildren Phillip Gregory and Justine Sullivan, both of Washington,D.C., his 4-legged children Bear and Miracle and many other friends whose lives he became a part of over 93 years. Howard was preceded in death by his sister Bernice Benton and nephew James Benton. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, State Route 44 at the corner of Pioneer Trail (S.of Rt. 422) Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Wednesday May 23, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rob Henderson of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge officiating. Howard will then be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville where he will receive full military honors provided by a U.S. Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.Following the cemetery service, friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship at the Shalersville Township Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department would be appreciated.His obituary, personal video tribute and funeral service may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ flowplayer("vidplyr1", "/tools/flowplayer/flowplayer-3.1.2.swf", { clip: { autoPlay: false, onStart: function(clip) { stopBGMusic(); } } }); });
