Howard F. Sargent's Obituary
SHALERSVILLE Howard F. Sargent, 95 years of age, passed away Saturday January 31, 2015 at his residence. Born in Orange Township, Ohio on July 28, 1919, he was the son of the late William and Lottie (Stoneman) Sargent. A resident of the Shalersville-Mantua areas since 1961, Howard was the former owner-operator of Solon Sand & Gravel for 58 years, retiring in 2006 at 87 years of age. He was a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church. Howard enjoyed attending antique truck and tractor shows, was a yearly visitor to the Geauga, Randolph and Canfield Fairs where he was sure to be found checking out all of the equipment and animal stalls, and traveling which included seeing 49 states, and at age 85 took a 10,000 mile trip across the country in 3 weeks time. He was a true fan of Lawrence Welk, loved to share and tell stories to family and friends, yet for those who came to know him, their memories will forever be that of a man whose passion for hard work was second to no one. Howard's family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also what and who he loved and cherished. On September 5, 1953, he married his beloved wife Patricia A. (Sabine) Sargent who celebrated over 61 years of marriage together, and survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children David Sargent of Shalersville, Doris (James) Leister of Mantua, Barbara(Jack) Fisher of Kent, Martha (Peter) Halemba of Russell and Carol (Doug) Golden of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, his sister Marie Protiva of Aurora, Ohio, 10 loving grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Norman and Elmer Sargent and sister Ruby Shaffer. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, St.Rt. 44 at the corner of 4668 Pioneer Trail, Mantua, Ohio 44255, where his funeral service will be held Thursday February 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Chad Delaney officiating. Final resting place will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville Township, Ohio.
