Ila M. Powell's Obituary
MANTUA Ila M. Powell, 89 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Monday, November 1, 2010 at her residence. Ila was God's Gift to Us on August 24, 1921 at the Turner Family Farm in Mantua Township, where her passing also took place. She was the daughter of the late William F. and Ruby L. (Boone) Turner. A homemaker, Ila married Clarence Powell on September 11, 1944 and together they operated Powell's Sunoco Service Station in Doe Run, West Virginia. In 1997, she returned to the Mantua area where she was an active member of the Mantua Center Ladies Cemetery Association, the Mantua Historical Association and Portage Faith United Methodist Church. Ila enjoyed all sports and remained an avid Cleveland Browns fan. She will always be remembered for her patriotic spirit and looked forward each year to celebrating the 4th. of July. Ila was preceded in death on July 26, 1981 by her husband Clarence Powell. Survivors include her sisters Arlene Finley and Lois Hopkins and brother Dale S. (Thelma) Turner all of Mantua; nieces Linda Zoller, Cathy Humr, Vivian Fischer, Marcia Fear, Bernice Usher all of Mantua and Susan Hawkins of West Virginia; nephews Glenn Turner of Mantua and Dennis Powell of West Virginia and many other loving family members. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where her funeral service will be Sunday November 7, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. Ila will be laid to rest Monday November 8, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at West Union Masonic Memorial Park in West Union, West Virginia beside her beloved husband Clarence Powell. In lieu of flowers, it was her request that memorials be made to the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department.
