James W. Burner's Obituary
WINDHAM James W. Burner, 67 years of age, passed away Friday March 11, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness. Born in Philippi, West Virginia on July 8, 1943, he was the son of Henry B. and Pauline (Nestor) Burner. A lifetime Windham resident, Jim graduated from Windham High School in 1961, following which he attended and graduated in 1965 from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Playing football in both High School and College, he returned to Windham where he taught Biology and Physiology at Windham High School from 1965 until his retirement in 2001. He served as Athletic Director and coached football and basketball and was inducted into the Windham Hall of Fame for his many years of school and community spirit. An avid runner, Jim enjoyed spending time at the beach of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and in the summer months he painted houses with his good friend Marty Hill, as well as painting houses for many years with and under the guidance of his father which he began at the age of 12 years. On October 30, 1965, he married Patricia A. (Hoskin) Burner who survives at their home. Also surviving are his daughters Jennifer (Ken) Northridge of New Jersey, Lisa (R.J.) Frederes of Illinois and Amber (Matt) Stalnaker of Leavittsburg, his father Henry B. Burner of Windham, his grandchildren Darcie, Zoe, Shannon, Anthony and Lucas, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Pauline Burner on August 26, 2008. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
