James R. Selander's Obituary
RAVENNA-STREETSBORO James R. Selander, 90 years of age, passed away Sunday August 14, 2016 in Streetsboro, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on July8, 1926, he was the son of the late Uno and Charlotte (Mergler) Selander. A Ravenna resident the past 17 years, he formerly was a longtime Streetsboro resident. Mr. Selander had been employed as a machinist at Cleveland Twist Drill, following which he worked for the State of Ohio until his retirement. Mr. Selander had served in the Merchant Marines, then in the U.S. Army during World War II and while stationed in Germany he met his future wife Marie Mr. Selander was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna. As a volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital for 20 years, he gave out Silver Dollars to newborns as a special remembrance. His generosity also included the many handmade bird houses he built for family, friends and those whose paths he crossed. On August 13, 1946, he married Marie (Boepple) Selander who preceded him in death in 2010. Survivors include his sons Richard (Mary Lou) Selander of Mantua, Edward Selander of Ravenna, William (Debra) Selander of Twinsburg and James (Sherie) Selander,II of North Ridgeville, Ohio; brother Kenneth (Judy) Selander of Willowick; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Theodore Selander. No calling hours. A family memorial service will be held. Private burial is at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
