Janet C. Rodhe's Obituary
Janet C. Rodhe, age 85, longtime Mantua resident, friend and neighbor, laid aside her earthly burden, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at The Inn at the Pines Assisted Living in Welshfield, just a short distance from where she went to grade school.
Janet was born July 13, 1938 in Bedford, Ohio to Raymond and Helen (Hurd) Edstrom. She attended Bainbridge High School and later, met the love of her life, Everett Rodhe. They married on October 2, 1954, for the next 53 years, until his death on October 2, 2007.
Janet was a true farm wife. She raised 6 children, while helping with the family dairy and maple syrup. She cared for chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows. She was an outstanding cook for family and friends, also the residents at Lakeview Rest Home for many years. She enjoyed long drives through Amish Country, farm tours, gardening and cooking, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family at family gatherings. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and often would call family and poke them about their team losing or chiding how many Super Bowls have you won? If you enjoy a rousing game of Euchre, Janet would keep the opposing players on their toes with an exuberant shout out “EUCH, EUCH, EUCHRE” when she and partner would euchre them.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett and sons Richard (Big Rick) and Ronald (Bug). She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Mark) Dove of Ravenna, Deborah (Ted) Miller of Mantua; sons, Raymond (Barbie) of Ashland and Roger (Susan) of Bainbridge; a sister, Marilyn Schultz of Aurora; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail (at the corner of St. Rt. 44), on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 10 am – 1 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 pm with burial to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
