Jay Roy Pixley's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLE-NELSON TWP. Jay Roy Pixley, 100 years of age, passed away Thursday July 4, 2013 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Jay was born on October 25, 1912 in Nelson Township, Ohio, the son of the late Roy and Nellie (Barnum) Pixley. A lifelong resident of the Nelson area, he graduated from the three year Nelson High School and attended and graduated from Garrettsville High School. During his year at Garrettsville High School, in 1932, he was a member of the only Garrettsville basketball team to play in the state finals tournament. He later served the community as a school board member of the Nelson School. Using horses he also worked as a member of the Nelson Township road crew. However, Jay's life-long work was as a dairy farmer in Nelson. With his "extra time" he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jay met his future bride, Margaret Eleanor Duch, in the Nelson School. The two were married May 11, 1935 and were married for nearly fifty years before Margaret passed away in 1985. Also preceding Jay in death were his two sisters Irene Pixley and Eva Cozad who was 104 when she passed away in November of 2012. Jay is survived by his children Raymond(Betsy) Pixley of Hiram Township, JoAnn (Ron) Arambasick of Nelson, Carolyn (Geoff) Lant of Ravenna, William Pixley of Garrettsville and Roy Pixley of Nelson. Jay also leaves eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Jay will always be remembered for his love of life, generosity, and ability to make people smile. Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Tuesday July 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. Final resting place will follow at Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township.
