Joan McAvoy's Obituary
MANTUA-LORDSTOWN Joan Marlene Benjamin McAvoy, 76 years of age, passed away Wednesday August 23, 2017 in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness. Joan was born on April 18, 1941 in Hibbs, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Clyde W. and Beatrice L. (Spurgeon) Davis. She graduated from the former German Township High School, following which she was employed by G.C. Murphy Co. and Montgomery Ward in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Upon moving to Ohio, she worked at numerous jobs, then was employed from 1981 until her retirement in 1995 by the Mantua, Ohio Police Department,where she served as Head Police Dispatcher at the time of her retirement. Joan loved doing crossword puzzles, watching football on TV, and traveling while her health permitted. She also truly loved seeing and talking with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband K.W. Benjamin and a sister Beverly, who died in infancy, and a son Brian McAvoy. Joan is survived by her husband Gary L. McAvoy at their home in Lordstown; her sons Keith (Marijana) Benjamin of Chardon, Ohio, Gary McAvoy of Lordstown and Randy McAvoy of Newton Falls; her daughter Holly (Jim) Kiesewetter of Berlin Center, Ohio; her sister Karen Johns of Greensboro, Pennsylvania and her grandchildren Lisa (Rob), Wesley (Jennie), Kayla, Michael, Hunter, Lucky and Dylan, and her great-grandson Johnny. Calling hours will be Sunday August 27, 2017 from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255. A graveside funeral service for Joan will then follow at 2:00 P.M. at Lordstown Cemetery on Salt Springs Road, Lordstown, Ohio.
