John Carl Bauman's Obituary
A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY MARCH 24, 2012 AT 2:00 P.M. AT THE HIRAM COLLEGE LIBRARY IN THE PRITCHARD ROOM. HIRAMJohn Carl Bauman, Sr., 74 years of age, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012, at his residence. Born on January 4, 1938, in Berea, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rudolph Bauman and Theresa (Bonsey) Whitfield. Mr. Bauman was a 1955 graduate of Willoughby High School, and he graduated in 1959 from Hiram College with his Bachelor of Arts in History. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh and Kent State University. A resident of Hiram the past 23 years, Mr. Bauman was employed by the Crestwood School District as a history teacher from 1961 until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he served on the Crestwood Board of Education for 8 years. He held lifetime memberships in the Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association and was a longtime member of NEOEA. For many years he reviewed classical music recordings for the American Record Guide and for Fanfare Magazine. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He visited every state in the United States plus almost all of the Canadian provinces and some of the Mexican states. He was also in almost all of the countries on the European continent plus China, New Zealand, and South Africa. While teaching at Crestwood, he helped sponsor the International Club and was instrumental in establishing and maintaining the student exchange with the Gymnasium in Neustadt am Rbge., Germany. On June 20, 1959, he married Joanne (Milliren) Bauman who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children John C. (Helen) Bauman, Jr. of Aurora and Katherine (Tom) Schama of Hiram and his granddaughter Claudia Bauman. No calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangemments are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
