Joseph "Joe" Koval's Obituary
MANTUA Joseph "Joe" Koval, 80 years of age, passed away Tuesday October 18, 2011 at his residence. Joe was born on August 1, 1931 in Fairpoint, Ohio the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Janicki) Koval. A resident of the Mantua-Shalersville areas since 1960, Joe was the President-Owner of Custom Plastic Extrusions,Inc. in Ravenna which he opened in 1966, retiring then in 1999. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua and the Mantua Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict proudly serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Joe enjoyed fishing which included charter fishing with family and friends, hunting, the outdoors and doing yard work at his home, working on his cars and those very special times spent with all of his family. On May 17, 1958, he married Kathleen "Katie" (Mahoney) Koval who survives at their home. Also surviving are his daughters Eileen (Mike) Edwards and Susan (John) Anderson both of Ravenna, Kathy (Tim) Borbely of Shalersville, Joyce (Dan) Cavanaugh of Hiram and Janice (Greg) Medlen of Mantua, his sisters Sophia Koval of Cleveland and Helen (Victor) Seghy of Parma, his grandchildren Craig, Brandon, Nicole, Joanna, Jaci, Ashley, Shane, Greg, Mallory, Joe, Noah and Nathan, and his great-grandchildren Kyle, Emma, Abby, Maddison and Tristin. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Simko and Josephine Koval and his 4-legged buddy "Lucky". Calling hours will be Thursday from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. & 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where prayers will be said Friday at 10:15 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday October 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Garvey officiating.Joe will then be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township where he will receive full military honors by a U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard Team and assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either St. Joseph's Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
