Joseph D. Leachko's Obituary
HIRAM Joseph D. Leachko, 97 years of age, passed away Thursday October 20, 2016 at UH-Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Born in Youngstown, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bednarik) Leachko. Formerly of Parma Hts., Ohio, he had been Hiram area resident since 1982. Mr. Leachko had been employed as a machinist during his lifetime, and also enjoyed being a ?Country Farmer? while residing in Hiram. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant, seeing action under the command of General Patton, and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. A member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Garrettsville, Mr. Leachko was an avid bowler and once had bowled a 299 game. On April 15, 1945, he married his beloved wife Eleanor (Hudak) Leachko who survives at home. Also surviving are his devoted children Joel (Sally) Leachko of Hiram and Paul (Debbie) Leachko of Medina, Ohio; his loving grandchildren Jacqlyn, Kelsey, Joseph, Andrew and Ann Marie, and his 4 legged grandchild and best buddy Georgia. He was preceded in death by his dear son Dale (wife Marita) and daughter Carol (husband Steve) Stanhope. Visitation will be Tuesday November 1, 2016 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday November 2, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Garrettsville with Rev. Edward Stafford officiating.
