Joseph Andrew Trunek's Obituary
Joseph Andrew Trunek, 85 years old of Elyria lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, October 01, 2011 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. Joseph was born in Cassandra, Pennsylvania on April 19, 1926 to parents Andrew and Edna (Starchville) Trunek. Joe was a World War II veteran. He also owned and operated a coal mine with his father in Johnstown, PA for 13 years. Joe retired from General Motors (Parma) after 26 years of service. An active and talented man he built his home in Pennsylvania and Elyria. Joe was passionate about his garden, planting vegetables and flowers every year. He was most proud of his thousands of tulips that he raised each year for 50 years. Bouquets were shared with his family, friends, and adorned the altar at St. Jude's, where Joe was a devoted member since 1960. Joe was also past and present member of VFW Post 1079 and St. Jude's Men's Club. Joe was compassionate towards others, always ready to lend a helping hand. Joe loved nature, camping, hunting and especially fishing were favorite pastimes. Having owned a boat most of his life, many good times were spent on Lake Erie and in Canada fishing with his buddies. Most trips leading to tall fishing tales. Joe will definitely be remembered for his lively story telling. Joseph and his wife Veronica enjoyed many years of traveling the world together. Most of all Joseph was completely devoted to his family and proudest of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Veronica (Nee Popp); his children, Nancy Stanko, Patricia (Sam Eisile) Donnelly, and Andrew (Lisa) Trunek; his grandchildren, Lisa (Keith) Mosansky, Sheryl (Joseph) Crauthamel, Jeffery Stanko, Jennifer Jeffries, Christopher Trunek and Alex Trunek; great grandchildren, Samantha Mosansky, Matthew Mosansky, Dylan Stanko, and Julia Crauthamel. Also surviving are his brother-in-laws, Andrew (Jeri) Popp and George (Barbara) Popp. Joe leaves behind many cousins, very dear neighbors and friends. Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio on Tuesday October 4, 2011 from 2-4 to 6-8 P.M. A rosary service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 9:30 A.M. followed by mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria, Ohio with the Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio where the V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
