Julius Edward Gokorsch, Jr.'s Obituary
MANTUA Julius Edward Gokorsch, Jr., 93 years of age, passed away Wednesday November 30, 2016 at his home in Mantua, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Julius E. and Anna (Braemer) Gokorsch, Sr. Formerly a longtime Cleveland resident, he had resided in the Mantua area the past 27 years. Mr. Gokorsch had been employed at Carnegie Corn Beef and Power Brake Equipment Company after serving as Production Manager at Warsaw Sausage in Cleveland. He was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Mantua. Mr. Gokorsch proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army with the 1055th. Army Corps of Engineers as a Deep Sea Diver, responsible for clearing underwater mines, detonating explosives, and the building of bridges in Normandy to move troops safely in areas of combat. Following the war, he looked forward to the many years that he was able to reunite with former Army diving buddies and share their service time. For Mr. Gokorsch his most special times in life were those spent with his loving family members who will always cherish the memories that were created together. On January 5, 1946, he married Antoinette (Hartman) Gokorsch who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Steven Edward (Jean) Gokorsch of Russell Township, Jane Frances (Kenneth) McDonald of Helena, Montana and Barbara Ellen Gokorsch of Mantua; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Julia Ann Hendricks. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday December 5, 2016 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, 11045 St. Joseph?s Blvd., Mantua, Ohio 44255, where visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Officiating will be Rev. Edward Stafford. Final resting place will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio where U.S. Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193 will provide full military honors.
