Genevieve Lawrence Green's Obituary
HiramGenevieve Lawrence Green, 88 years of age of Hiram, entered into eternal life at the home of her daughter, Dorothy Lee, on Friday, July 17, 2009, with all her family around her, with Crossroad Hospice Care present, and with a smile on her face from the noise of grand and great-grandchildren playing. She was born on January 31, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Rev. Ralph E. and Ethel (Leavenworth) Lawrence. She graduated from Hiram College in 1943 with a major in Home Economics. Genevieve met her future husband, Robert C. Green at Hiram College. They were married November 27, 1943. In 1946 they built their home on Norton Road together. They enjoyed family and travel for 39 years until 1982, when Bob died following an accident. Genevieve was primarily a homemaker, very active in community work: Girl Scouts, Hiram Research Club, Grange, Rapids Community Church Association and Hiram Fellowship group. Genevieve was a member of Hiram Christian Church, Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years, member of Christian Women's Fellowship, Elder and Honored Elder. She worked for both Portage County and Burton Library as Librarian for Homebound people for many years. She was their "Library Lady". She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Ron) Lee of Garrettsville, Patricia (Patrick) McDonnell of Frankfort, IN., Margaret (Richard) Green-Masters of Hiram, Cynthia (Jeff) Gundlach of Kent; sons, Ralph (Margaret) Hammond-Green of Hendersonville, NC., Lawrence (Dung Tran) of Santa Ana, CA., and foster-child, Robert (Marianna) Waller of Chardon. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christina (Patrick) Aiken, Kelly and Erin McDonnell, Jessica, Alexis, Emily and Rachael Gundlach, Carlin and Lina Green, Genevieve Masters, Melissa (Josh) Wilde and Orysia Lee, Mark (Betty) Masters, and her great-grandchildren, Daren, Josh, Tim and Allison Aiken, Bailey, Sydney, Chase and Breanna McDonnell, Summer, Kara and Ethan Wilde, Nicole, Michaela and Rebecca Masters. Genevieve was preceded in death by her brother, David Lawrence, and grandson, Ryan Lee. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Funeral services will be Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hiram Christian Church with Rev. Roger McKinney officiating. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram. Family and friends are invited to return to the church following the burial for a time of fellowship.
