Lawrence W. Hurd, Sr., 83 years of age, passed away Wednesday November 11, 2020. Born in Ravenna, Ohio on October 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Lawrence L. and Lynn (Saffron) Hurd. A lifetime resident of the Shalersville-Hiram area, Mr. Hurd had been the owner-operator of Hurd Construction and BTM Estates. He served with honor in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He hosted the annual Portage Soil & Water Conservation Tree Packaging for over 20 years. An avid fisherman and hunter, he will be remembered for being a Master Woodworker as shown in his residence, and in the operation of his business. Family will always remember his love of dogs, and that Larry had a work ethic second to none. On February 4, 1961, he married Ann “Nancy” Hurd who preceded him in death on August 26, 2008. He also was preceded by his brother James Hurd, and 2 grandsons Jarrod and Michael, great-granddaughter Sophia, and his daughter-in-law Lori (Smith) Hurd. Survivors include his children Lawrence “Lanky” (Terri) Hurd of Shalersville, Kevin M. Hurd, and Phillip J. (Michelle) Hurd, Sr., both of Garrettsville, Terri Billiter of Ravenna, and Laura (Dale) Hudec of Atwater. 13 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren also survive. Larry will be sadly missed by his 4-legged child “Missy”. Visitation will be Saturday November 14, 2020 from 12:00 Noon-1:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255, where his funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Social distancing and face masks will be observed for the both. Final resting place will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Mantua Village, Ohio where Military Honors will be provided by Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.
