Leldon Jerry Hooie's Obituary
MANTUA Leldon Junior "Jerry" Hooie, 91 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Tuesday December 2, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Hooie was God's Gift to Us on November 2, 1923 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, the son of the late Martin Lonie and Verta (Bailey) Hooie. A resident of the Mantua area since 1959, he had been employed at S.K. Wellman Company in Bedford, retiring in 1977 after 30 years of service. Jerry proudly served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army, and held membership in the American Legion in Tennessee. He was a longtime active member of The Mantua Country Baptist Church. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed gardening and was a gentleman who truly loved his dogs and cats as much as they loved him. On July 8, 1949, he married Wynell (McGill) Hooie who survives at their home. Also surviving is his daughter Lissa (Timothy) Ranker of Mantua, brothers William Hooie of Tennessee and David Hooie of Florida, his sister Frances Newton of Tennessee, grandsons Timothy (Darla) Ranker, Jr. of Ravenna and Dan (Kelly) Ranker of Paris, Ohio, as well as 4 great-grandchildren Emily, Austin, Ava Jane and Beau. He was preceded in death by his daughter C. Jane Osborne on January 22, 1997 and his brothers Paul Hooie and Hillard Hooie. Calling hours will be Friday December 5, 2014 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Murray Bay. Military Honors will follow presented by The U.S. Army Honor Guard Team. Cremation will then be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Robinson Memorial Hospital Visiting Nurse & Hospice, or to the Mantua Country Baptist Church.
