Leo B. Pozek's Obituary
MANTUA TWP. Leo B. Pozek, age 88, was reunited with his recently departed wife Jewell J. Pozek in our Lord's house on March 20, 2009. He passed away of natural causes while a resident at Ridgecrest Retirement Care, Waco, TX. Mr. Pozek became God's gift to us on September 5, 1921 in Uniontown, PA. In 1931, he moved to Cleveland, OH. In 1939, Mr. Pozek joined the Ohio National Guard's 112 Combat Engineer Battalion. His Platoon was later attached to the 116th Regiment Combat Team, 37th Division. His unit stormed the beaches of Normandy at Omaha Beach fifteen minutes after the H-Hour on June 6, 1944. During his years of honorable service in WWII, Mr. Pozek's medal honors included one Silver Star and five Bronze Stars. He served our country from 1939 to 1945 and was a lifetime member of VFW. Leo and his beloved wife Jewell were wed January 18, 1947. They lived in Strongsville, Ohio, where Mr. Pozek worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Cleveland Carpenter's Union. In 1980 Mr. Pozek and his wife moved to Madison, Florida, where they spent 20 years managing the Madison Country Club. Mr Pozek was an avid golfer. Upon retirement they moved to Valdosta, GA. Mr. Pozek lost his loving wife on January 19, 2009, while they lived with family in Mantua, Ohio. Mr. Pozek is survived by sons, Lee (Gretchen) Pozek, Mantua, Ohio; Joe (Susie) Pozek, Waco, Tx; Steven (Barbara) Pozek, Kimberling City, MO. and daugher Jane Pozek, Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are his loving grandchildren, Lee (April), Kyle, Emily, Abby, Patrick Tyler, Maura, and Delaney. Mr Pozek was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Margaret Pozek, brothers Nicholas and George, and sisters Estelle and Margaret. No calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 10 A.M. at the family's former parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 12700 Pearl Road, Strongsville, OH 44136. Imediately following the Mass, Leo and Jewells Pozek's Interment will be a Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark. Military honors will be provided for Mr. Pozek. Memorials in Leo and Jewell's name are suggested to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice, 6801 Brecksville Rd, Suite #10, Independence, Ohio 44131 or the charity of your choice.
