Leona was one of our favorite Silver Sneaker exercisers! She and Ralph were always so pleasant and well liked by everyone! And of course, the many fond memories of The Mantua Gang! Doug, Jenny, Mark, Mike and Peggy: bike rides, baseball, snowball fights, sled riding, youth group, and Leona always being so nice!
Mrs. Livezey was always so kind. I am so sorry for your loss.
In a way, I can go back to 1967 when Leona and her beloved husband, Ralph, bought their home in Mantua from of all people, my mom. The Livezey family moved to Mantua, including their three sons and daughter, from Grand Island, New York. My mom made sure to tell me about the new girl, but I didn't know much else about them. Years later, I would start dating their lovely daughter and one day marry her. The bonus was, of course, Leona. With my mom gone, she would eventually be the person I called "mom." Some of my favorite times were the mornings we stayed at their home on Ambler Lane. I would get up early and sit in the kitchen with both Leona and Ralph. There was a beautiful view of the front yard to watch the birds and squirrels. Leona would talk about many things, some of which surprised me because, as a former school teacher, she knew things I had been up to many years before. But despite some of those things, not always good ones, she was still kind. She would warmly laugh as we talked about current thoughts, and from her past. It was fascinating to listen to her reminisce. She particularly enjoyed speaking of her many travels around the United States in a fifth wheel. I'm thankful she was here for me to substitute for my mom. My love for her will be constant, and she will be greatly missed by not only me but her family and many friends.
