Leonard P. Sayre's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLE-NELSON TWP.Leonard P. Sayre, 59 years of age, passed away Tuesday April 7, 2015 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Leonard was born in Ravenna on May 6, 1955, the son of Roy L. and Evelyn (Mellin) Sayre. A lifetime area resident, he was a graduate of James A. Garfield High School in 1974. Leonard was employed as the Nelson Township Road Supervisor and Cemetery Sexton for 15 years, following which he worked for ODOT for 15 years, retiring in 2008. Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, fast cars and motorcycles and had a true appreciation for the great outdoors. Family and friends will forever remember the love he showed for his nieces and nephews, "throwing babies in the air" when they were small, and the times he spent playing his guitar and the piano to entertain the special child at the Hattie Larlham Center. Survivors include his father Roy L. Sayre of Nelson Township, brother Donald (Sharon) Sayre of Medina, Ohio, sisters Laurie (John) Taylor of Ellijay, Georgia, Juliann Vermillion of Lacey, Washington, Billie (Dave) Baisden of Nelson Township, Doreen (Chuck) Lallathin of Hiram, 8 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in 1998 by his mother Evelyn Sayre and his nephew Jeffrey Lallathin in 1995. Funeral services will be Saturday April 11, 2015, 2:30 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where visitation will be held from 1:30 P.M. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Rick Hughes, with final resting place to follow at Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to AA, 1701 East 12th.
