Linda L. Rea's Obituary
WOOSTER-HIRAM Dr. Linda L. Rea, 72 years of age, passed away Sunday October 11, 2015 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster, Ohio following a long period of declining health. Linda was born in Canton, Ohio on June 30, 1943, the daughter of James and Tulsa (Hildreth) Snyder. A graduate of Louisville High School in 1961, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Otterbein College in 1965, a Masters of Arts in 1966 and her Doctor of Philosophy in 1977 both from Kent State University. Linda was a professor at Hiram from 1968-2009 and a longtime resident of the Hiram area, moving to Wooster in 1990 to marry Dr. James R. Rea. Dr. Rea was a world traveler who took many college students and traveled extensively in Central American countries where her heart and compassion lead her. She will be remembered as a colleague, advisor and mentor for thousands of students who had the privilege of knowing her in and out of the classroom. She was a member of the Garfield Society and holder of the Bissell Chair. She truly enjoyed the outdoors, reading, and spending time with her two grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter Allyson (Eric) Gray, grandchildren Trace and Kylee Gray of Shreve, Ohio, mother Tulsa Snyder and sister Patricia Coy both of Warsaw, Indiana. Linda was preceded in death by her husband Dr. James R. Rea in January 2010, her father James Snyder on November 23, 1982 and brother Fred Snyder on February 21, 1970. Calling hours will be Friday October 16, 2015 from 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255. A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday October 17, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at the Hiram Christian Church 6868 Wakefield Road (St. Rt. 82) Hiram, Ohio 44234 with Chaplin Jonathan Moody officiating. Final resting place will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Hiram, Ohio. Immediately following the cemetery service, all are invited to return to the church for a time of fellowship and luncheon.
