Loyd Meeks' Obituary
BATH TWP.Loyd E. "Hemmi Eddie" Meeks, 69 years of age, passed away Sunday September 1, 2013 at his residence. Born in Vinton, Virginia on April 26, 1944, he was the son of the late Edward D. and Viola (Miller) Meeks. A resident of Bath Township and the Akron area the past 15 years, Loyd formerly was a longtime Cleveland resident, and was the owner-operator of Wash & Dry Laundries in Cuyahoga and Summit Counties for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Era. Loyd was well known for his abilities as a Drag Racer of cars and motorcycles, thus the nickname "Hemmi Eddie" became common to his family and friends. A man with a heart as large as his size, he would give anyone the shirt off of his back! Survivors include his brothers Lonzo M. Payne of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Dennis (Martha) Payne of Bolair, West Virginia, sister Bethel Covel of Orlando, Florida and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday September 10, 2013, 2:30 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where visitation will be held from 1:30 P.M. until the time of his services. Final resting place will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township, Ohio where military honors will be observed. His obituary may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
