Mark Toncar's Obituary
CORTLANDMark F.Toncar 57, passed away September 4th after a long illness He was born to Carol Toncar (nee Peterka) and the late Frank W. Toncar on Aug. 19, 1956 in Cleveland, Oh. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1974 and received his BBA, MA and PhD from Kent State University. He married Ruthe Merckens in 1988. Mark is survived by his sons Jonathan Merckens (Heather) of Huron, Oh, Frank and Mark at home, by granddaughters Rachel and Sidney Merckens, sisters Deborah Donovan and Jacqueline (Clifford) Sebastiano, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Dr. Toncar joined the Marketing department at Youngstown State University in 2002 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2008. Prior to joining YSU he was a member of the faculty at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. Dr. Toncar was recognized by peers in the Academy as a respected scholar with numerous journal article to his credit. He was designated Distinguished Professor of Scholarship at YSU in 2008. Dr. Toncar was also an outstanding educator teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level where the testimony of his students serve as an example of the important impact he had on the lives of those in his classroom. Mark was a lifelong member of the DTJ, a Czech organization, having gymed at Komensky Hall. He volunteered at many DTJ events over the years and served as the treasurer of Mt. Pleasant DTJ club for 5 years. Friends received at the GREEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME State Rt 44 at the corner of 4668 Pioneer Trail (S of Rt 422) Mantua where services will be held Tuesday September 10 at 11a.m. followed by interment at Shadyside Cemetery, Auburn Twp. VISITING HOURS: MONDAY 2-4 AND 6-8P.M.
