Martha M. Smith's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLE Martha M. Smith, 96 years of age, passed away Thursday December 31, 2015. Born on August 25, 1919 in Southington, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie (Helsley) Hoffman. Mrs. Smith was a 1937 graduate of Chalker High School in Southington. Following high school, she moved to Garrettsville and has remained there since 1938. For many years, Mrs. Smith was the bookkeeper for Garrettsville Paint and Glass which she and her late husband, Gene, owned and operated. She earned the title "Pie Lady" baking a dozen pies a day at Skylane Bowling. She developed a lifetime of cherished friends, who in later years would come thru the back door for conversation and playing cards. Martha will forever be remembered riding on her John Deere, taking care of her three-acre lawn. The memories that she created for both her family and friends will forever be cherished and are a tribute to her love of those she came to know. June 26, 1946, she married Gene O. Smith who preceded her in death on March 15, 2002. Also preceding her were three younger brothers-Robert, Grant and Richard Hoffman. Survivors include her children William F. Smith of San Francisco, CA, Timothy C. (Carol) Smith of Auburn, Karen L. Smith of Reno, NV, 5 grandchildren and to her delight 2 great-grandchildren. According to her wishes, private family graveside services will be held at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville at a later date. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
