Mary Louise Dimick's Obituary
AURORA Mary Louise Dimick, 90 years of age, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Monday December 28, 2015 in Akron, Ohio. She was born in Hubbard, Ohio on March 23, 1925 to Edward Smiley McConnell and Louise Caroline (Woltjen) McConnell. Mary was raised on an apple farm in Liberty Township, Ohio, before her family purchased Fruitland's Orchards in Edinburg, Ohio; Mary was a graduate of Edinburg High School. After a year of college at Ohio State University, she went back to the family farm and soon met a newly graduated veterinarian working in Portage County by the name of Dr. Alan Dimick. They were married on September 15, 1945 on that farm. Mary administered the office for Alan as he made his veterinary rounds in his large animal practice. She was an Aurora City Councilwoman and a Republican presiding judge for Ward 2 in Aurora for about 50 years; she knew almost everyone in the ward. She also was a Cub Scout den mother, taught swimming during Aurora Recreation Week, and was a member of PYA (Portage Young Adults). She was a past president of the Women's Council for Hiram College and was a member of The Church in Aurora. She loved to travel with Alan; they RV'd most of the United States and Mexico. Mary also traveled to Europe, Asia, and Australia. Within the last year she took auto trips to Montana, Virginia, and a Florida 7 day cruise. She played a lot of golf, but she is best known for her passion playing bridge and would play 3-4 times a week. She liked to play internet Scrabble with her daughter-in-law and granddaughters, worked two newspaper crossword puzzles daily, and she was an avid reader. She was the last living member of her McConnell siblings as well as the Dimicks of her generation. For those of us who were honored to know her, she will be missed. Mary is survived by her three sons, Bruce Edward (Doreen) Dimick, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI ; Philip Alan Dimick and Thomas Hardy Dimick of Aurora, OH; three grandchildren: Sarah Dimick-(Scott) Gray, Rebekah (Eric) Dimick Eastman, Louise Dimick (Deepak Dass) ; five great grandchildren: Alex, Fiona, Ted, Harley, and Marigold; and her nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Final resting place will be at Edinburg Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. http://www.greenfamilyhome.com
